ABSTRACT
Although leptocephali are very conspicuous in plankton samples little is known about their occurrence and distribution along the Brazilian coast. Therefore, present study aimed to identify pattern eastern coast, which limited north by Real River (12°S) south São Tomé Cape (23°S). Samples were collected during three oceanographic cruises conducted on October–December 1998, May–July 1999 March–May 2000. Samplings done using a bongo net with mesh apertures of 330 500 µm. The was towed obliquely maximum depth 200 m. A total 13 families, 12 genera 29 species identified area. Most taxa had already been recorded as adult, but larval phase some them not for this region yet. Among them, Derichthyidae, Avocettina paucipora Tiluropsis either adult or larvae. occurred mainly Bahia coast strictly southern
