ABSTRACT
Polysaccharide-based hydrogels act like smart materials and exhibit a wide range of properties that can be utilized for several applications. super water absorbent (SWA) hydrogel was prepared from an aqueous solution carboxymethylcellulose (CMC)/acrylamide (AAm) Using gamma radiation Co-60 source at room temperature (~27°C). Functional groups the were characterized in terms Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy-Attenuated Total Reflectance (FTIR-ATR). The swelling SWA saline solutions (NaCl, CaCl2, AlCl3) examined. It found value is higher (27900%) than those (2074% NaCl, 1718% CaCl2 796% AlCl3). Results also indicated capacity decreases with increased charge cation salt. Swelling ratio NaCl highest which 26, followed by 12.48 6.22 AlCl3 solution. A comparative study done changing cationic size same group elements (between KCl NaCl). This suggested depends upon size. Compared to 2074% solution, slightly (2442%). behavior attributed screening effect monovalent cations, as well ionic crosslinking multivalent cations.
