Removal of Foreign Body Aided with Various Navigation Modalities: A Case Report and Literature Review

ABSTRACT
<i>Background</i>: Computerized surgical navigation (CSN) has many potential applications in foreign body (FB) removal. <i>Case report</i>: While playing, a 14-year-old girl was accidentally shot the facial area with shotgun. Removal of superficial shots and left eyeball performed at local hospital. She transferred to West China Hospital Stomatology (Sichuan, China) on third day after accident due difficulties removing remaining shots. Except for eye vision loss, there no abnormal physical or laboratory test. Spiral computed tomography (CT) scan head data were imported into <i>iplan</i> software VectorVision<sup>2</sup> system. A dynamic reference frame fixed skull another forceps. Eight successfully removed. One could not be removed because significant shifting. At 1 month, incisions healed symptoms signs. <i>Conclusion</i>: The case presented here relevant literature about CSN indicates that is valuable modality removal FBs, only craniomaxillofacial area, but anywhere body.
