ABSTRACT
Purpose.: We determined ocular and systemic factors influencing macular thickness measured by spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) in a population-based sample of healthy eyes. Methods.: recruited 490 Chinese adults, aged 40 to 80 years, from the Singapore Eye Study, survey. All participants underwent comprehensive eye examination standardized interview. The SD-OCT (Cirrus HD-OCT, software version 6.0) was used measure range parameters (central foveal subfield thickness, average inner outer overall cube volume). Linear regression analyses were performed examine effects various on thickness. Results.: mean (standard deviation) age subjects 53.17 (6.14) years 50.0% them male. central subfield, inner, thicknesses 250.38 (20.58), 319.33 (14.40), 276.67 (11.94) μm, respectively. 280.25 (11.42) μm volume 10.09 (0.41) mm3. Sex, age, axial length (AL) are that influenced thicknesses. Thinner associated with female sex (4.46 thinner compared males, P < 0.001), older (0.38 decrease per each year increase longer AL (2.34-μm mm AL, whereas (13.5 0.001) shorter (3.33-μm 0.001). Conclusions.: Female sex, independently ethnic Chinese. These should be taken into consideration when interpreting measurements SD-OCT.
