ABSTRACT
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the clinical characteristics paravascular abnormalities (PVAs) and retinoschisis, their associations with choroidal thickness (ChT) in young highly myopic (HM) adults. Methods: A total number 645 eyes were included. Paravascular microfolds (PMs), cystoid spaces (PCs), lamellar holes (PLHs), retinoschisis detected using swept-source optical coherence tomography. Their macular ChT risk factors analyzed. Results: PMs, PCs, PLHs 203 (31.5%), 141 (21.9%), 30 (4.7%) eyes, respectively. Retinoschisis found 50 (7.8%) 43 (86.0%) which located around retinal vessels surrounding optic disc. decreasing trend (P < 0.001) observed PMs only, both PCs PLHs, PMs. After adjustments for age, sex, axial length (AL), presence or disc negatively associated (all P 0.05). Eyes longer AL, incomplete posterior vitreous detachment (PVD), atrophic maculopathy (MAM) more likely have 0.01) Conclusions: PVAs approximately one third HM adults study. thinner ChT. PVD, MAM may be at developing Translational Relevance: could serve as early indicators myopia progression.
