ABSTRACT
Purpose: To evaluate early detection of retinal hemangioblastomas (RHs) in von Hippel–Lindau disease (VHLD) with widefield optical coherence tomography angiography (wOCTA) compared to the standard care ophthalmologic VHLD screening a routine clinical setting. Methods: We conducted prospective comparisons three methods: wOCTA, ophthalmoscopy, and fluorescein (FA), which was performed only uncertain cases. The numbers detected RHs were among methods. underlying causes for lack investigated. Results: In 91 eyes (48 patients), 67 observed (mean, 0.74 ± 1.59 RH per eye). FA eight eyes. Ophthalmoscopy overlooked 25 35 by wOCTA (71.4%) due background color choroid (n = 5), small tumor size 13), masking bright fundus reflex 2), surrounding scars 5). However, missed 29 peripheral location (43.3%). overall rates up 37% on basis ophthalmoscopy alone, 52% 89% FA. Within area covered 46.7% 92.1% 73.3% Conclusions: low rate using is almost exclusively caused its inability visualize entire retina. Therefore, unclear cases, necessary after ophthalmoscopy. Translational Relevance: imageable area, shows high therefore may be suitable improve VHLD.
