ABSTRACT
Abstract This paper describes a new velocity–azimuth display (VAD)-based dealiasing method developed for automated radar radial velocity data quality control to satisfy the high-quality standard and efficiency required by operational assimilation. The is built on an alias-robust (AR-VAD) analysis. It upgrades simplifies previous three-step in three major aspects. First, AR-VAD used with sufficiently stringent threshold conditions place of original modified VAD preliminary reference check produce alias-free seed first step. Second, more accurate than traditional refined second step, so step becomes unnecessary removed. Third, block-to-point continuity procedure developed, point-to-point third which serves enhance use available properly enlarged block area around each flagged point that being checked multiple avoid false dealiasing. has been tested extensively aliased collected under various weather conditions, including hurricane high-wind conditions. robustness exemplified results cases. limitations possible improvements are discussed.
