ABSTRACT
Abstract Cuban and Spanish scientists have been studying the properties of atmospheric aerosols in Camagüey, Cuba for more than 15 years, achieving notable scientific results at local, regional, global levels. Using instruments expertise supplied by Spain, characterized local aerosol optical microphysical properties, their chemical composition absorbing properties. Aerosol depth (AOD) Ångström exponent observations were used to validate MODIS satellite broadband AOD from pyrheliometers. Sun photometer cloud allowed us characterize cloudiness its radiative forcing. Scientific work included climatologies solar radiation last four decades Camagüey Caribbean basin two decades. Another result was designing, building processing a low-cost all-sky camera. Besides results, cooperation sun contribute Red Ibérica de Medida Fotométrica Aerosoles AERONET. A workshop celebrating ten years held 2016. The participants evaluated progress, difficulties challenges inaugurated angular calibration bench sensors Camagüey. also first visit NASA scientist Cuba, only one visit. became members International Science Team Tropospheric Emissions: Monitoring Pollution (TEMPO) mission, just launched, participating pre-launch activities. Considering joint capabilities we developed, Cuban-Spanish contribution is expected TEMPO post-launch validation campaign.
