ABSTRACT
The authors compared sustained attention deficits measured by the Continuous Performance Test in patients with various affective disorders and schizophrenia examined whether improve remission of disorder symptoms.Patients (N=41), major depression without psychotic features (N=22), bipolar (N=46) completed sessions an undegraded version test a 25% degraded which stimulus images were visually distorted. Subjects also interviewed Chinese Diagnostic Interview for Genetic Studies. All inpatients (N=41) (N=15) assessed both at admission discharge. Subjects' scores standardized comparison community sample 345 subjects, adjustment age, sex, level education.Compared general population, all patient groups except group nonpsychotic significantly impaired their ability to discriminate target stimuli from nontarget on Test. Patients had severest impairment, followed those features. From discharge, remained unchanged, but showed significant improvement adopted similar response criterion (the amount perceptual evidence person requires decide that is target) less stringent during Test.Continuous are stable vulnerability indicators schizophrenia, mediating disorder, state-dependent depression.
