ABSTRACT
Social exchange theory (SET) has made significant contributions to research on residents’ support for tourism. Nevertheless, studies are based an incomplete set of variables and characterized by alternative, yet contradictory, theoretically sound propositions. Using key constructs SET, this study develops a baseline model compares it with four competing models. Each contains the terms additional relationships reflecting alternative theoretical possibilities. The models were tested using data collected from residents Niagara Region, Canada. Results indicated that in best fitted model, tourism was influenced their perceptions positive impacts. Residents’ power trust government significantly predicted life satisfaction Personal benefits negative impacts provides valuable clearer insights among SET variables.
