ABSTRACT
Prior research on correctional officer burnout has focused almost exclusively the effects of job characteristics. To date, this line inquiry largely failed to consider one important factor associated with unique nature prison work—direct exposure interpersonal victimization (e.g., individuals in custody-on-officers). This article uses data from 269 officers working four South Korean facilities examine differential impact experienced custody-on-officers aggression (i.e., verbal violence, minor and serious physical violence) characteristics role clarity) three dimensions emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, a sense lack personal accomplishment).
