ABSTRACT
Adopting the theoretical framework of social exchange, authors used two dominant Confucian values—hierarchy and relationalism—to theorize mediating role affective trust in relationship between paternalistic leadership employee in-role extra-role performance Chinese organizational context. Data from 601 supervisor–subordinate dyads 27 companies a Taiwanese conglomerate revealed that while benevolence morality dimensions are positively associated with both performance, authoritarian dimension is negatively related to subordinate performance. Furthermore, mediated benevolent moral but did not mediate authoritarianism The practical implications these findings discussed context beyond.
