ABSTRACT
As theoretical models become more complex, there is pressure to use less time-consuming methods generally, and shorter scales specifically. Although reliability related scale length, cutoffs are easily met, even in very short scales, by writing or selecting items that worded nearly identical ways, is, grammatical redundancy. However, redundancy increases at the cost of domain sampling—a crucial early step construction one two pillars content validity. Without it, a cannot capture intended construct. The purpose this paper provide developers (and shorteners) with process for quantifying, identifying, reducing without compromising conceptual redundancy, we label ConGRe. Our involves indices from linguistics literature can be used guide decisions during item writing, prior data collection. We examine their relation traditional psychometric indicators set benchmarks. Overall, demonstrate it possible reduce thus avoiding deficiency, sacrificing properties.
