The development of a Chinese vocabulary proficiency test (CVPT) for learners of Chinese as a second/foreign language

ABSTRACT
In order to address the needs of continually growing number Chinese language learners, present study developed and presented initial validation a 100-item vocabulary proficiency test (CVPT) for learners as second/foreign (CS/FL) using Item Response Theory among 170 CS/FL from Indonesia 354 Thailand. Participants were required translate or explain meanings words Indonesian Thai. The results provided preliminary evidence construct validity CVPT measuring learners’ receptive knowledge in terms content, substantive, structural, generalizability, external aspects. translation-based was an attempt measure by exploring their performance translation task, potentially revealing test-takers’ high-degree knowledge. Such could be useful instruction designing future measurement tools.
