ABSTRACT
Background: Nowadays, a transfemoral amputation prosthesis can be fitted to the skeleton using an osseointegrated implant, that is, without socket. Treated patients have reported improvements in quality of life. Objectives: To investigate differences prosthetic costs and service prostheses compared socket-suspended prostheses. Study Design: Retrospective cost analysis survey. Methods: Costs noted visits during mean ~10 years were taken from one workshop included 50 with unilateral (36 prostheses, 20 6 used both kinds prostheses). A survey comprised 71 (69% males; age = 52.3 year; cause: 66% trauma, 23% tumour, 11% other). Results: Statistically significant fewer shown (cost analysis: 3.1 vs. 7.2 visits/year, survey: 3.4 9.2 visits/year). The total annual new services, repairs adjustments was 14% lower for than (€3149 €3672 respectively, p 0.632). subgroup recent produced revealed material account 92.5% 70% Conclusion: Despite significantly comparable This study suggests it is due more advanced components being Clinical relevance Patients require does not seem differ between two However, sophisticated knees frequently which could explain lack differences.
