ABSTRACT
Silicon dioxide nanoparticles (SiO2-NPs) are among the most widely used because of their chemical-physical properties. Since brain maturation occurs in neonatal period humans and many mammals, it is important to understand how NPs may affect this process. This study tested hypothesis that SiO2-NPs from treated dams could hippocampus rats during lactation. Twenty-four pregnant rats, after delivery, were divided into three groups control, (25 mg/kg) (100 mg/kg). The 2nd 21st days post-delivery by gavage effects these evaluated offspring's hippocampi reveal maternal exposure lactation on hippocampi. offspring had higher malondialdehyde concentration lower antioxidant activity than non-treated control group. mean number doublecortin positive (DCX+) cells synaptophysin expression significantly group, whereas dark neurons was higher. Also, animals a weak cognitive performance adulthood. In conclusion, via breastfeeding hippocampal neurogenesis synaptogenesis, leading impaired performance.
