Grinding force modeling and experimental verification of rail grinding

ABSTRACT
Many factors could affect the grinding force during rail processes. Therefore, modeling is necessary for predicting forces under different parameter conditions. In this study, 3D models of wheels were constructed based on surface topographies real wheels. By means simulation processes using DEFORM-3D, influences parameters explored. Furthermore, in order to verify results, experiments conducted a friction testing apparatus. Both and experimental results showed that increased with pressure granularity wheel decreased rotational speed wheel. A correction factor k s 0.894 was obtained least square method reduce error between from 10.22 4.42%.
