ABSTRACT
Dissimilar joints of copper to aluminium were produced by high power ultrasonic welding (USW). The interfacial reaction between and 6061 alloy as a function time was studied. intermetallic compound (IMC) layer is mainly composed CuAl 2 Cu 9 Al 4 . thickness the IMC increases with time. For relatively long (0·7 s) in USW, dendritic solidification microstructure observed local regions, owing occurrence eutectic reaction, α-Al+θ→ L, process. lap shear load (or strength) first then decreases increasing time, failure occurred dominantly at interface.
