ABSTRACT
The parasite Echinococcus canadensis (G7) (phylum Platyhelminthes, class Cestoda) is one of the causative agents echinococcosis. Echinococcosis a worldwide chronic zoonosis affecting humans as well domestic and wild mammals, which has been reported prioritized neglected disease by World Health Organisation. No genomic data, comparative analyses or efficient therapeutic diagnostic tools are available for this severe disease. information presented in study will help to understand peculiar biological characters design species-specific control tools. We sequenced, assembled annotated 115-Mb genome E. (G7). Comparative using whole data three species not only confirmed status separate but also demonstrated high nucleotide sequences divergence relation granulosus (G1). contains 11,449 genes with core set 881 orthologs shared among five cestode species. genomics revealed that there more single polymorphisms (SNPs) between (G1) than multilocularis. This result was unexpected since were considered belong complex sensu lato. described SNPs known drug targets metabolism genome. Regarding gene regulation, we analysed particular features: CpG island distribution along genomes, DNA methylation system small RNA pathway. results suggest occurrence yet unknown regulation mechanisms Echinococcus. first work addresses genomics. resources here promote development new discovery. availability high-quality assembly critical fully exploring biology pathogenic organism. provides unique opportunity address genetic diversity genus its developmental features. At present, no unequivocal taxonomic classification species; however, genome-wide analysis performed phylogenetic distance these Additional genomes need be sequenced able resolve their phylogeny.
