COVID-19 epidemiological, sociological and anthropological investigation: study protocol for a multidisciplinary mixed methods research in Burkina Faso

ABSTRACT
Abstract Background The world has high hopes of vaccination against COVID-19 to protect the population, boost economies and return normal life. Vaccination programmes are being rolled out in income countries, but pandemic continues progress many low-and middle-income countries (LMICs) despite implementation strict hygiene measures. We aim present a comprehensive research protocol that will generate epidemiological, sociological anthropological data about epidemic Burkina Faso, landlocked country West Africa with scarce resources. Methods perform multidisciplinary using mixed methods two main cities Faso (Ouagadougou Bobo-Dioulasso). Data be collected general population patients, caregivers health care professionals reference centers: (i) determine cumulative incidence SARS-CoV-2 infection Burkinabe blood samples from randomly selected households according WHO-recommended protocol; (ii) develop score predict severe complications persons infected retrospective prospective data; (iii) semi-structured interviews direct observation on site, describe analyze healthcare pathways experiences patients attending centers, identify perceptions, acceptability application preventive strategies among population.
