ABSTRACT
To evaluate the relationship between flow signal intensity of branch arteries distal to stenosis on 3-dimensional (3D) time-of-flight (TOF) magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) and risk stroke recurrence in patients with severe middle cerebral artery (MCA) trunk stenosis. We prospectively recruited 153 (mean age 62.9 ± 13.0 years, 106 males) a first ischemic or transient attack caused by MCA (70 % 99 %) confirmed 3D TOF MRA followed them for one year determine recurrence. The site was classified as either good (grade A) poor [mild reduction B) C)] according extent which could be visualized. were divided into groups A (35), B (58), C (60) based grading Poor associated internal border-zone infarction (p < 0.05). ipsilateral 18.3 %. 1-year cumulative incidence higher group (30 than (12.1 (8.6 (Log rank, p = 0.007). Multivariate analyses via Cox proportional hazard regression demonstrated that only grade classification branches an independent predictor (hazard ratio 3.0, 95 confidence interval 1.3-7.4, 0.014).
