ABSTRACT
Vitamin D displays immunomodulatory activities and has been proposed as a potential player in the pathogenesis of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). A negative association between serum 25(OH) vitamin levels RA activity was demonstrated but longitudinal studies investigating role predicting response to treatment are lacking. Therefore, this study designed test hypothesis an at diagnosis disease evaluated by clinimetric, laboratory ultrasound (US) parameters detect prevalence remission after 12 months follow-up. This is longitudinal, retrospective on data obtained from thirty-seven patients with early treatment-naïve. Serum inflammatory markers, auto-antibodies were baseline. Hypovitaminosis diagnosed for < 20 ng/ml. Tender joint count (TJCs), swollen (SJCs), Visual Analog Scales (VAS), Disease Activity Score (DAS) 28 score assessed baseline diagnosis. Joints synovitis power-Doppler later. At mean 24.4 ± 11.9 ng/ml; 35% subjects had hypovitaminosis which strongly associated higher lower (all p-values 0.001). The percentage not presenting reduction US significantly among than those normal In basal follow-up observed levels. These results provide further support action suggest status prediction evolution. measurement possibly supplementation should be considered additional option management patients.
