Choosing a career in oncology: results of a nationwide cross-sectional study

ABSTRACT
Little information is currently available concerning young medical students desire to pursue a career in oncology, or their expectations.This project cross-sectional epidemiological study. A voluntary and anonymous questionnaire was distributed all oncologists studying France between the 2nd of October 2013 23rd February 2014.The overall response rate 75.6%. total 505 completed questionnaire. The main determining factors decision practice oncology were nature field (70.8%), depth variety human relations (56.3%) multi-disciplinary work (50.2%). Most residents would like complete rotation outside assigned region (59.2%) abroad (70.2%) order acquire additional expertise (67.7%). In addition, most interns undertake fellowship involving care, teaching research hone skills (85.7%) forge public hospitals (46.4%). Career prospects mainly involve salaried positions hospitals. Many are concerned about professional future, due shortage openings (40.8%), workload (52.8%) lack work-life balance (33.4%).This investigation provides comprehensive profile reasons chose prospects.
