Challenges and opportunities from the COVID-19 pandemic in medical education: a qualitative study

ABSTRACT
Abstract Introduction Since the onset of COVID-19 pandemic, many higher education and health centers have faced challenges. Educational leaders tried to manage new situation, but human infrastructure was not ready for such an event. This study aims explain challenges opportunities pandemic medical education. Method qualitative used conventional content analysis collect data from face-to-face semi-structured interviews. The interviews continued until saturation reached. participants were 12 students 14 faculty members at Shiraz University Medical Sciences. To ensure rigor, we member checks, peer checks external observer. Results Three main categories 15 subcategories extracted. findings showed that four subcategories, e.g. perception on feasibility e-learning, standardizing dedicated teaching, networking interdisciplinary collaborations, affected development e-learning. classified into five subcategories: attitudes e-learning adaptability, preventing students’ separation educational environment, documentation monitoring education, take control own learning, increasing perceived usefulness. divided noncompliance with virtual classroom etiquette, inadequate interactions, time limitations, defects problems. Finally, believed methods evaluation in more suitable diagnosis formative evaluations. Generally, two extracted, summative. Conclusion schools necessarily moved towards compensate interruption traditional classes been replaced These rapid, extensive changes teaching learning approaches consequences schools.
