ABSTRACT
Inherent features in virtual simulation could be utilised to deliver collaborative global education that is inclusive, accessible, and valued by students facilitators. The aim of this study was evaluate the impact International Eyecare Community (IEC) platform's simulated international placements (VSIP) optometric education.An international, multi-center, cross-sectional mixed methods with Deakin University, Australia, Elite School Optometry, India, used VSIP IEC using pre-existing deidentified data collected from teaching learning activities within optometry course curriculum. Data on facilitators perceptions were through transcripts focus group discussions. interpreted descriptive statistics qualitative analysis constant comparison for thematic analysis.A total 64 out 167 student participants completed survey responses (39%) 46 (28%) self-reflective inventories. Focus groups 6 facilitator recorded analysed. Student reported relevant (98% agreement) motivated them apply theoretical knowledge a clinical context (97% agreement). themes identified were: factors inherent enabled VSIP, supported cognitive apprenticeship, education, VSIP' role cross-cultural professional identity development students.The found platform helped motivate learn improve their skills. considered potential supplement physical revolutionize offering co-learning across cultures.
