Evaluation of electronic patient-reported outcome assessment with cancer patients in the hospital and at home

ABSTRACT
Patient-reported outcomes (PRO) provide a more comprehensive picture of patients' quality life than do mere physicians' ratings. Electronic data collection PRO offers several advantages and allows assessments at homes as well. This study reports on personal internet use, their attitudes towards electronic web-based assessment (clinic-ePRO home-ePRO) the feasibility these two modes. At Medical University Innsbruck Kufstein County Hospital, cancer patients who participated in clinic-ePRO/home-ePRO were asked to complete evaluation form usage, routine with Computer-based Health Evaluation System (CHES) software. In total, 113 completed for clinic-ePRO (Ø 45 years, SD 14) home-ePRO 58 10; 33.1 per cent inclusion rate this sample). Most expressed willingness future (94.7 84.4 patients) discuss attending physicians (82.2 cent, only). Overall, preferred software over paper-pencil questionnaires (67.2 60 experienced it easy use. Only few minor suggestions improvement made (e.g. adjustable font sizes). The use was general shown be feasible well accepted. However, inclusive implementation clinic-ePRO/home-ePRO, educational programs concerning particular benefit oncology practice potentially could enhance towards, consequently acceptance compliance assessments.
