Development and validation of practice-based multimedia assisted item: a mixed-method study

ABSTRACT
The rapid development of information and technology the spread COVID-19 have made online learning assessment more prevalent. In this context, potential multimedia-assisted items to provide an alternative method evaluation is significant. These can better reflect authentic clinical situations enhance higher cognitive skills. This study aims develop validate that authenticity. A mixed-method design with qualitative quantitative approaches was adopted. conducted in two phases: validation. Thirty-six were developed using videos, audio files, photos, pictures. Preliminary testing ensured item comprehensibility usability. validation phase, a mock test administered 136 nursing students, 105 completing survey. Quantitative analysis included calculating difficulty, discrimination, reliability examining evidence based on relation another variable through correlations reasoning scores differences perceived academic achievement. Qualitative involved thematic interviews 10 participants explore their experiences response process. average total score 18.1 out 36, difficulty averaging 0.51, discrimination 0.31, (Cronbach's alpha) 0.64. While no significant correlation found between scores, difference observed high low-perceived achievement groups. Participants expressed relevant practice than paper-based items, integrating theoretical knowledge practicum experience, enhancing understanding, stimulating active participation practicum. Multimedia-assisted been verified as effective strategy for education assessing students' comprehensive competencies. MAIs are adequate evaluating competencies theory practice, suggesting newly graduated nurses' improve assessments education.
