ABSTRACT
Abstract Background Non-communicable disease (NCD) care in Sub-Saharan Africa is challenging due to barriers including poverty and insufficient health system resources. Local culture context can impact the success of interventions should be integrated early intervention design. Human-centered design (HCD) a methodology that used engage stakeholders evaluation tailor-make meet their specific needs. Methods We created Design Team professionals, patients, microfinance officers, community workers, village leaders. Over 6 weeks, utilized four-step approach synthesis, idea generation, prototyping, creation develop an microfinance-group medical visit model for NCD. tested with 6-month pilot conducted feasibility using focus group discussions participants members. Results Using human-centered methodology, we designed NCD delivery consisted coupled monthly visits led by educator rural clinician. Benefits included medication availability, financial resources, peer support, reduced caregiver burden. Critical concerns elicited through iterative feedback informed subsequent modifications resulted tailored local context. Conclusions Contextualized are important settings multiple care. demonstrate use HCD guide development innovative NCDs Kenya. as framework optimize implementation.
