ABSTRACT
Biomarkers of oxidative stress in pigs have been measured serum/plasma samples. However, blood collection can be highly stressful to the animals. Saliva is a biological fluid with several advantages over blood, since it easily collected without animals, being therefore an ideal sample this species. The objective study was validation assays for evaluation status saliva pigs. For purpose, three commonly used evaluate total antioxidant capacity (TAC): trolox equivalent (TEAC), cupric reducing (CUPRAC), and ferric ability plasma (FRAP)), one individual (uric acid) two oxidant concentrations (advanced oxidation protein products (AOPP) hydrogen peroxide (H2O2)) were validated porcine saliva. In addition, possible changes these sows' during lactation studied. methods had intra- inter-assays coefficient variation lower than 15%. They also showed adequate linearity recovery, their detection limits low enough detect analytes Overall analytical tests that our are valid reliable observed salivary biomarkers change situation such as sows. All evaluated demonstrated high accuracy imprecision. has significant Therefore, opens new possibility using non-invasive
