ABSTRACT
Environmental tobacco smoke (ETS)-associated particulate matter (PM) has to be seen as an independent health hazard and needs discussed separately from the already well-known toxic carcinogenic compounds contained in cigarette smoke. We believe that brand-specific amounts of PM are public interest should investigated. An automatic environmental emitter was developed placed into a glass-chamber generate reliably possible. Cigarettes were smoked automatically according standardized protocol. Mean concentrations (Cmean) area under curve (AUC) PM2.5 released by brands P&S, Virginia (without filter) 3R4F standard research University Kentucky, USA, measured compared with each other.Cmean reference 1,725 μg/m(3), for P&S: 1,982 μg/m(3) without filter: 1,525 μg/m(3). AUC was: 527,644 μg/m(3)×sec, 606,171 464,788 μg/m(3)×sec.Our modified ToPIQ-II study protocol shows significant differences cigarettes environment, when cigarettes. information about PM-release all relevant relation published. In light risk factor morbidity mortality, this may serve basis further epidemiologic investigations.
