ABSTRACT
Few literatures have studied the blood management in patients treated with staged bilateral primary total knee arthroplasty (TKA) a single hospitalization period. Therefore, this study aims to evaluate effectiveness and safety of newly introduced multimodal (MBM) these patients. We retrospectively compared perioperative parameters 70 cases undergoing TKA period from 2012-2013 center two different groups patients, allocating group MBM (Group A, n =33) controls without B, =37). The protocols include preoperative hemoglobin (Hb) evaluation, high protein diet, tourniquet release after skin closure, oral iron treatment femoral canal obturation, one dose tranexamic acid (TXA) IV another if necessary. While control group, only routine blood-saving techniques were used.Group A had transfusion rate 9% (3/33), whereas 32.4% (12/37) Group B received allogenic transfusion. Significant benefits also found terms postoperative Hb hematocrit (Hct), reduction pain, swelling, length stays, hospital costs. No deep vein thrombosis (DVT) events all patients. The can reduce loss effectively as well pain joint swelling instead leading increased complications result significant cost savings.
