ABSTRACT
Both video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) and thoracotomy are used for sleeve lobectomy patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). This retrospective study aimed to assess the safety efficacy of VATS NSCLC patients. Between May 2009 2013, 51 lobectomies (10 by 41 thoracotomy) were performed NSCLC. Operative characteristics postoperative course compared between two groups. Patient demographics similar Thoracotomy had larger tumors (p = 0.02). a longer operating time < 0.001) but shorter length hospital stay 0.009). The groups did not differ in pathologic stage, histologic results, blood loss, ICU stay, amount chest drainage, duration numbers distributions dissected lymph nodes occurrence complications. There no perioperative deaths group, whereas there was one death (2.4 %) group. conversions overall median survival (3.2 years versus 3.2 thoracotomy, log-rank p 0.58). treatment is technically feasible safe associated comparable complication rates approach, it deserves further investigation large series.
