ABSTRACT
Histones and histone variants are essential components of the nuclear chromatin. While mass spectrometry has opened a large window to their characterization functional studies, identification from proteomic data remains challenging. Indeed, current interpretation relies on public databases which either not exhaustive (Swiss-Prot) or contain many redundant entries (UniProtKB NCBI). Currently, no protein database is ideally suited for analysis histones complex array mammalian variants. We propose two proteomics-oriented manually curated mouse human >1700 gene, transcript produce non-redundant list 83 85 histones. These were annotated in accordance with nomenclature unified "HistoneDB2.0 Variants" database. This resource provided format that can be directly read by programs used interpretation. In addition, it was interpret acquired extracted testis. Several variants, had so far only been inferred homology detected at RNA level, spectrometry, confirming existence form. Mouse collected different subsequently protein-centric resource, MS_HistoneDB. It dedicated study will hopefully facilitate
