ABSTRACT
Klebsiella pneumoniae is a gram-negative bacterial species capable of occupying broad range environmental and clinical habitats. Known as an opportunistic pathogen, it has recently become major causative agent infections worldwide. Despite growing knowledge about the highly diverse population K. pneumoniae, evolution significance well relationship between are poorly defined. We isolated sequenced from in-patients in single hospital Thailand, sewage, surrounding canals farms within 20-km radius. Phylogenetic analysis 77 (48 29 non-clinical isolates) demonstrated that two groups were intermixed throughout tree some cases resided same clade, suggesting recent divergence common ancestor. comparison Thai genomes with 286 global collection showed isolates closely related to sub-population collection, indicating belonged globally circulating lineages. Dating four clades indicated they emerged 50 150 years ago. their phylogenetic relatedness, virulence factors β-lactamase resistance genes more numerous than isolates. Our results indicate related, but hospitals may select for resistant virulent genotype. These findings highlight relevance
