A strategic reset: micro-credentials for higher education leaders

Abstract This article provides university leaders an introduction to the emerging micro-credentials field, including a snapshot of global landscape. Despite accelerated interest in micro-credentials, this also raises fundamental strategic question for at outset: Are right our university? Part I discusses basic elements mcro-credentials, definitions, types and affordances barriers various providers micro-credentials. II presents what is happening on playing field challenges inherent trying standardise globally. The final section some general observations by authors, lessons from practice, brief example how institutions may implement reset using authors close emphasising are not panacea resolving institutional they unlikely become major revenue enhancement. They provide value their integration with other initiatives.
