Personal, social, and environmental correlates of physical activity and sport participation in an adolescent Turkish population

ABSTRACT
Abstract Background Benefits of physical activity has been shown for adolescents; however, there is a decline trend in number adolescents meeting current WHO recommendations. This underlines the importance identifying factors associated with adolescents’ level (PAL) considerations regional and cultural differences to plan implement effective policies. Therefore, aim this study was determine personal, ecological, social PAL sport participation Turkish aged 11–14 years. A cross-sectional conducted by including 996 between 11 14 years from 39 secondary schools İstanbul, Turkey. Logistic regression analyses performed identify significant personal (age, gender, sleep time, screen BMIz score, having siblings), ecological (presence playground, type school transportation), (family income, engaging family, preferred at breaks) predictors participation.
