ABSTRACT
The incidence and severity of tuberculosis (TB) in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) varies greatly among different series. In addition, prospective data are scarce. aim this study is to analyse the frequency TB our cohort patients. We analysed from a database single center 232 SLE (ACR criteria). Prophylaxis isoniazid was not regularly administered. identified all cases diagnosed during 10 years (January 1994 December 2003). following variables were analysed: annual TB, location infection response therapy. Data published series reporting on extracted. Three (1.3%) suffered clinically manifest 1603 patient-years follow-up, resulting an 187 cases/100 000 (95% CI 39-547). pooled area period 30/100 individuals. recorded two pulmonary one case tuberculous pleurisy. All had good other series, most them developing countries, varied between 150/100 Turkey 2450/100 India. Of note, high prevalence extrapulmonary forms as well elevated TB-associated mortality reported more frequent than expected general population. did see any disseminated treatment. Our compare favourably terms incidence, outcome those highly endemic areas.
