ABSTRACT
Abstract: The monoamine transporters are the main targets of psychostimulant drugs, including methamphetamine (METH) and cocaine. Interestingly, rewarding effects cocaine retained in dopamine transporter (DAT) knockout (KO) mice, while serotonin (SERT) DAT double KO mice do not exhibit conditioned place preference (CPP) to These data suggest that SERT inhibition decreases psychostimulants. To further test this hypothesis, present study, we investigated intraperitoneal (i.p.) injections 20 mg/kg fluoxetine, a selective reuptake inhibitor (SSRI), on 2 METH CPP locomotor sensitization 1 C57BL/6J mice. Fluoxetine treatment before both conditioning tests abolished CPP. A two‐way analysis variance (ANOVA) revealed tended be lower pretreated with fluoxetine than control saline test. Furthermore, pretreatment had inhibitory METH‐induced sensitization. results widely used medication for depression, may also useful tool treating dependence.
