ABSTRACT
PURPOSE To identify specific independent adverse clinicopathologic factors for event-free survival in a cohort of consecutively treated patients with extremity soft tissue sarcomas. PATIENTS AND METHODS Prospectively collected data from population 1,041 adult localized (American Joint Committee on Cancer [AJCC] stage IA to IIIB) sarcomas were analyzed. Patients at single institution between 1982 and 1994. Patient, tumor, pathologic analyzed by univariate multivariate techniques prognostic the end points local recurrence, distant disease-specific survival, post-metastasis survival. RESULTS The 5-year rate this was 76%, median follow-up time 3.95 years. Significant recurrence age greater than 50 years, recurrent disease presentation, microscopically positive surgical margins, histologic subtypes fibrosarcoma malignant peripheral-nerve tumor. For intermediate tumor size, high grade, deep location, leiomyosarcoma, nonliposarcoma histology factors. large leiomyosarcoma lower site only size ( > 10 cm) an factor. CONCLUSION differ those identified subsequent recurrence. margins or who present locally are increased risk tumor-related mortality. Specific histopathologic associated risks failure
