ABSTRACT
Purpose Evidence suggests that the re-entry phase (ie, early period after medical treatment completion) presents distinct challenges for cancer patients. To facilitate transition to recovery, we conducted Moving Beyond Cancer (MBC) trial, a multisite, randomized, controlled trial of psychoeducational interventions breast Methods Breast patients were registered within 6 weeks surgery. After treatment, they completed baseline measures and randomly assigned standard National Institute print material (CTL); peer-modeling videotape (VID); or material, videotape, two sessions with trained educator, informational workbook (EDU). Two primary end points examined: energy/fatigue cancer-specific distress. Secondary depressive symptoms post-traumatic growth. Perceived preparedness was analyzed as moderator effects. Results Of 558 women 418 6-month assessment 399 12-month assessment. In analyses controlling study site symptoms, VID produced significant improvement in at months relative CTL, particularly among who felt less prepared baseline. No main effect emerged on distress, but EDU prompted greater reduction this outcome CTL more re-entry. Between-group differences outcomes not 12 months, no effects secondary points. Conclusion A can accelerate recovery energy during treated cancer, those feel
