ABSTRACT
298 Background: Although global incidence of gastric cancer has been decreasing over the past decades, an upward trend reported in younger patients and certain ethnic groups few years. The reason for this epidemiological is not fully understood, but differences presentation prognosis suggest that young might represent a different clinical entity. Here, we seek to identify demographic characteristics outcomes between adults older admitted cancer. Methods: Using National Inpatient Sample (NIS) database, identified all adult primarily from 2016 2019. We analyzed (defined as those aged 20 49-years-old) (aged 50 above) well in-hospital mortality, total hospital charges, length stay. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was conducted adjust confounders. Results: During period studied, 77,720 were with cancer, which 9,650 (12.4%) 68,115 (87.6%) old individuals. Young more likely be female (42.4 vs. 35.6%, p < 0.01). Hispanics comprised 30.9% admissions (vs. 15% p-value <0.01). also 3 times uninsured than individuals (9.6 2.6%, <0.01) cared urban (98.2 96.2%, 0.01) teaching (85.4 80.8%, hospitals. had longer lengths stay lower charges (see table). No difference found despite comorbidity burden based on Charlson Comorbidity Index, possibly due being candidates aggressive therapy having disease. Conclusions: higher Hispanic poses complex public health issue, especially context recent research suggesting disease population. findings reflect both shift U.S. population years rising among adults. It important increase awareness these disparities. Further needed determine whether establishing screening programs populations beneficial [Table: see text]
