Gender disparities in incidence of psychological disorder among patients with breast cancer: A national cohort study.

ABSTRACT
e23285 Background: Male breast cancer (MBC) is rare. The features of MBC shares similar characteristics with female cancer, often resembling postmenopausal cancer. However, there are notable differences between male and especially regarding gender age, which can have distinct psychological impacts on patients. In this study, we investigated whether the distress experienced upon a diagnosis differs according to gender. Methods: Data were obtained from National Health Insurance claims database Review Assessment Service in South Korea. This study focused three most common disorders: sleep disorders, anxiety depression. Diagnosis confirmation relied diagnostic codes based International Code Disease, 10th revision, alongside diagnoses. Propensity score matching was used 1:5 ratio, adjustment variables included endocrine therapy, chemotherapy, HER2-targeted treatment, Charlson Comorbidity Index score. Results: After excluding patients previous disorder, total 75,936 patients, 281 (0.4%) diagnosed at an older had higher prevalence hormone receptor-positive status, comorbidities, lower rates while disorders depressive showed incidences. Cox proportional hazard regression model exhibited that being risk factor for disorder (after matching, multivariable, HR 1.498, 95% CI 1.057-2.123, p = 0.023). did not significantly influence development or despite these conditions typically having incidence females. During acute phase shortly after diagnosis, women tend more distress, as seen cumulative curves.
