ABSTRACT
Abstract Women of advanced maternal age (AMA) (age ≥ 35) have increased rates infertility, miscarriages, and trisomic pregnancies. Collectively these conditions are called “egg infertility.” A root cause egg infertility is oocyte aneuploidy with age. AMA women often elevated endogenous FSH. Female senescence-accelerated mouse-prone-8 (SAMP8) has spindle aberrations, diminished fertility, rising FSH We hypothesize that during the oocyte's FSH-responsive growth period a abnormalities in meiotic spindle. report eggs from SAMP8 mice treated equine chorionic gonadotropin (eCG) for chromosome misalignments. Activin molecule raises FSH, ActRIIB:Fc an activin decoy receptor binds sequesters activin. treatment midlife duration lowers prevents misalignments, increases litter sizes. patients can also poor responsiveness to stimulation. although eCG yields viable oocytes, oocytes. cotreatment markedly reduces These data consistent hypothesis contributes aneuploidy, declining ovarian response prevent increase improve response. Future studies will continue examine whether works via and/or other pathways stimulation women.
