ABSTRACT
To characterize cell specific expression of sstr subtypes in the pituitary we have analyzed mRNA for sstr1-5 rat somatotrophs by reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction and determined pattern level 2 5 individual subpopulations double label situ hybridization. Purified expressed all sstrs. In hybridization analysis revealed sstr5 70% somatotrophs, 57% thyrotrophs, 38% corticotrophs, 33% lactotrophs, 21% gonadotrophs. sstr2 occurred 40% 36% 26% 3% 8% Not only were more cells positive but average number autoradiographic grains/cell was also higher than sstr2.
