ABSTRACT
Recent studies suggest a close local link between bone marrow adiposity and endosteal formation. Using magnetic resonance imaging, we examined whether the relation amount of fat cortical is present at multiple sites along diaphyses long bones young old males females. The relations values for area percent in each 5-mm section midthird both femoral shafts were determined using imaging eight healthy (aged <25 yr), nine >55 yr) men women.Strong inverse correlations observed all 34 femurs; r -0.54 to -0.97; P = 0.01-0.0001. The strength this association was comparable elderly females. Our results underscore connections adiposity. Increasing our understanding mechanism could lead better diagnosis treatment approaches osteoporosis.
