Androgen Profile Through Life in Women With Polycystic Ovary Syndrome: A Nordic Multicenter Collaboration Study

ABSTRACT
Women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) have increased androgen secretion throughout fertile life; however, the data on effect of menopause hyperandrogenemia in these women are scarce. Nevertheless, large comprehensive comparative studies age-related levels PCOS lacking. The objective study was to investigate age serum and determine cutoff values for androgens SHBG associated a diagnosis. This case-control study. conducted five university sites Nordic countries. In all, 681 230 referent were grouped according into seven groups (18 > 50 y). There no interventions. T, SHBG, free index (FAI), calculated T (cFT), androstenedione (A4), dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate measured. Androgen decreased toward menopause. difference between narrowed individual variation as they approached levels, FAI, cFT significantly higher aged 18–44 years (P < .001, adjusted body mass index). best predictive factors having (≥0.40 ng/dL, odds ratio [OR] 7.90), FAI (≥2.0, OR 6.71), A4 (≥277.94 6.16). had elevated also after parameters that predicted at all ages cFT, A4, FAI.
