ABSTRACT
The objective of this study was to determine the sensitivity and specificity clinical criteria for possible vascular dementia (VaD) recently developed independently by two groups: State California Alzheimer's Disease Diagnostic Treatment Centers (ADDTC) National Institute Neurological Disorders Stroke with Association Internationale pour la Recherche et l'Enseignement en Neurosciences (NINDS-AIREN). We also wished compare performance new that Hachinski Ischemic Score (HIS). comprised a retrospective chart review clinicopathologic correlation, took place in 304-bed acute-care geriatric hospital. subjects were 113 autopsied elderly patients dementia, who assessed ADDTC NINDS-AIREN VaD. Sensitivity calculated using neuropathologic diagnosis as gold standard. 0.63, 0.64 ADDTC, 0.58 0.80 NINDS, 0.43 0.88 HIS. Test combinations did not lead substantial gains or specificity. majority disease successfully excluded (87%), (91%), HIS (97%). proportion mixed cases clinically misclassified VaD 54% 29% NINDS-AIREN, 18% Low is main weakness above Mixed better than ADDTC. Data from validation should provide valuable information clinicians researchers wish apply these
