ABSTRACT
The Latino population has a high prevalence of obesity 47.8%, hence it is critical to address the underlying factors influencing their physical activity (PA) patterns and eating habits combat this issue. Since lifestyle develop at home during adolescence, study focused on Latina mothers, traditionally prominent figure in household. PURPOSE: To explore perception mothers diet PA. METHODS: A sequential exploratory mixed method was employed form semi-structured one-on-one interview questionnaires. participants included 8 73 who were recruited from local elementary schools filled out questionnaires questions demographic information, PA, perceptions health wellness within each participant's respective communities. RESULTS: participants' responses both (N = 8) 27) highlighted four common themes that have an influence choices families: values togetherness, self-identification as influential figures family, importance education, negative implications low socioeconomic status. CONCLUSIONS: called for culturally competent programs take into consideration family ties, culture while accommodating barriers may exist community. We hope current can serve basis future research investigating impact programs.
