ABSTRACT
Beta-alanine (BA) is a popular ergogenic supplement because it can induce muscle carnosine loading. We hypothesize that, by analogy with creatine supplementation, 1) an inverse relationship between urinary excretion and loading present, 2) the latter stimulated carbohydrate- protein-induced insulin action. In study A, effect of 5-wk slow-release BA (SRBA) supplementation (4.8 g · d(-1)) on whole body retention was determined in seven men. further whether coingestion carbohydrates proteins SRBA would improve retention. In B (34 subjects), we explored meal timing (3.2 d(-1) during 6-7 wk). One group received pure (PBA) meals; other PBA at start meals, to explore meal-induced release. Further, compared third receiving meals.Orally ingested has very high (97%-98%) that not declining throughout period, nor influenced macronutrients. Thus, small portion (1%-2%) lost through excretion, equally only incorporated into (≈ 3%), indicating most metabolized (possibly oxidation). Second, soleus muscles, efficiency significantly higher when coingested (+64%) meals (+41%), suggesting stimulates Finally, chronic versus seems effective.
