ABSTRACT
BACKGROUND Patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome 2 can rapidly progress to distress (ARDS). Because clinical diagnosis of ARDS includes several diseases, understanding characteristics COVID-19-related is necessary for precise treatment. We report patients due COVID-19-associated pneumonia. CASE REPORT Case 1 involved a 72-year-old Japanese man who presented and fever. Computed tomography (CT) revealed subpleural ground-glass opacities (GGOs) consolidation. Six days after symptom onset, reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) testing confirmed He was intubated received veno-venous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) 8 onset. Follow-up CT large diffuse areas crazy-paving pattern consolidation, which indicated progression Following treatment antiviral medications supportive measures, patient weaned off ECMO 20 days. 70-year-old Asian residing in Canada cough, malaise, nausea, vomiting, pneumonia diagnosed based on positive result from RT-PCR testing. The then transferred intensive care unit showed that while initial GGOs had improved, appeared, similar those observed upon alveolar damage. administered systemic steroid therapy extubated 6 CONCLUSIONS exacerbation cases seems inconsistent, individual management, especially CT-based strategy, crucial.
